John N. Staples is a graduate of Saint Paul's School, Concord, N.H.; Trinity College, Hartford, CT; and Pepperdine University School of Law (JD, 1976). He is a member of the California State Bar Association and the Monterey County Bar Association, and a former partner in the law firm Millard, Morris and Staples, Carmel, CA. He has been an active member of the Monterey Peninsula community, serving on numerous non-profit boards of trustees including All Saints Day School, the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, Monterey Peninsula United Way, Planned Parenthood, and the Monterey Peninsula Salvation Army Advisory Board.
Prior to attending law school, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and served as a Marine helicopter pilot in Vietnam (1970-1971), where he was awarded the Single Mission Air Medal for valor. Thereafter he served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and California Air National Guard, and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel.
